    Default Hosting and Nameservers

    Hi,

I was wondering if any one can help me with this!

I am hosting some of my site with a host in USA and they have two Nameservers

    Nameserver 1: nameverver1.host1.com
    Nameserver 2: nameserver2.host1.com

some times this host is down and I was wondering what happens if I upload all my files on a different host in Australia and have the second hosts nameserver as my 3rd and 4th nameserver so when one of the hosts are down it goes to the second host?

    Nameserver 3: nameverver1.host2.com
    Nameserver 4: nameserver2.host2.com

    Thanks
    Mitchell

It's not that simple, but it's close!

Hook up with a company that offers DNS hosting such as dnsmadeeasy.com, dyndns.com or my personal favorite zoneedit.com. Then simply use their system for what is called failover DNS and you're done.

Thank Bruce, like always fast and efficient. Is zoneedit.com a free service?!!
By the way what happens if I do use the four nameservers, would I get some error?

    Thanks again

zoneedit is free, or at least it used to be. Of course it has it's limits as to how much usage is given for free.

With 4 nameservers it's most likely that some users will see one server and some the other server, dns is kind of a strange beast.

Wouldn't you also have a problem with mismatch databases???? You would have to sync the DB's.

Yes you would, but no mention was made of a database.

You can use rsync to synchronize the databases.
