    Default Direction of the Forums

Hiring someone from the forum is a possibility, but the issue here is that we already have six programmers. Granted they do not all work on IndexU at once and one of them is dedicated to iDesk/win32 apps.

Matt (inspireme) messaged me some time ago and has moved on in business. At one point he asked if I would take over on indexu.co.uk and we spoke briefly and he never responded to my last message. His site is now offline, I have no idea if it will be back.

esm has apparently stopped posting but is still visiting the forum. Having been here (the forum) approximately three hours ago. I will assume he saw my replies about the spam and chose not to reply because he saw he was wrong.

Users have asked for many things over the last few months, and I've delivered on a lot of them. Many others are in the planning stages and will be happening.

So what else can I do? You want a busier forum but if no one chooses to post then there's not much I can do about it. Here's what I've been doing to help in this regard.

You want "action" and I've provided it. I was up until 4AM last night fixing and setting up the affiliate program, yet another step to help increase user satisfaction and throw some money your way.

While the project tools are new they offer an unparralelled way to track bugs and feature suggestions.

Changes to the website to improve traffic have been done all month long and include meta tags, sitemaps, SEO and more.

The mailing lists have all been set up now and include seven email lists that users can sign up to ranging from a general list to updates and security notifications.

Got any other suggestions? Start a new thread and talk to me, give me your ideas and I'll see what I can do.
My self personally... I dont care if the forum has 300 people on it at all times posting messages or if there are only a dozen active posters and 300 watchers.

I understand the importance of an active community... I really do... But whats most important to me are the changes and updates that Bruce and the rest of the NiceCoder team is doing. It is also more important to me for people like mpdaddy and esm to help write plugins and pitch in when idiots like me have problems

I guess where I'm going with this is... Bruce, just keep doing everything you are doing... If the forum blows up with hundreds of new users that are posting - GREAT! If it remains more of a watcher and only a few posts then so be it

I'm happy with the way things are heading. I'm not at all saying everything is perfect... but happy with the track NiceCoder is on... I think thats a true testimate to Bruce's hard work. He's really taken what we've been *****in about and working hard to get them done and implamented. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but at this moment I think NiceCoder is delivering on their promises

All the changes and upgrades and features on the forum is from me making the changes. The programmers, Dody and John have nothing to do it. I'm not tooting my horn, just stating a fact. I told them what changes I'm making and they all agreed that it was good so please don't think I'm running the show unhinged.

John and Dody like where the forum is going as well.

In regards to plugins and such I'm talking with John about a change, if it's approved I'll reply in this thread as soon as I find out.

In regards to the forum I think I'm going to look for an additional moderator. There is no longer "just" moderated threads and posts to deal with. There are threads, posts, galleries, visitor messages, groups, images and projects to monitor in addition to the blog and the affiliate program.

Yes I've done gone and given myself more work to do (as you can tell since I just approved your affiliate account). It's honestly not hard, but sometimes it's hard to remember to check everything.

There's also a meeting tonight with the programmers but they don't know that yet. There are some things that I want to discuss and with that meeting we'll get them hammered out and I'll post about them too!

I have no issues about being open to the community, and open to ideas as well.

You sound like you're holding back something, let it out because I want to hear it. Just remember that I can't change the past.

I personally am not holding anything back. I say what I mean, and mean what I say

ok, here's what I learned tonight, and I'm being brutally honest about this.

For the last month we've had communication issues. For some reason I haven't heard about all the work the programms have been doing. That has been resolved. This isn't the first time it's happened, but I do know why it's happening. For the programmers their native language is not english. Due to living in Indonesia to communicate they typically speak two languages already which is javanese and indonesian. In fact some of the programmers also know other local languages. They also all know english as well but they are not comfortable typing in english because they often cannot find the words they want in english.

We're trying to work past this communication barrier. We'll get there eventually.

More templates are ready for indexutemplates. We will be releasing two more in November and at this time five templates are done so we have a "stock" already.

You can see in SVN the changes that have been made for the expanded user features of IndexU. These are features that we spoke about on the forum recently.

Next week IndexU Deluxe 1.2 will be released. Remember that IndexU releases will be monthly from now on.

The nicemember script has had more payment processors added to it, recurring billing, discount coupons, a free account type added and a fix to the email templates.

Bug fixes to the sitemap are apparently being worked on. There was an issue with the sitemap for 1.1 that was only seen on some servers and we could not replicate it for some time. They will be included in 1.2

iDesk 1.6.4 has been released (today). The manual isn't complete yet however.

NiceBackup is apparently working for a single domain, now to add multithreading

A script for downloading and searching usenet headers will be released soon. That is a personal script of mine and I've decided we should release it.

There was also talk about a youtube like site that is built by keywords. I don't know many details about this yet but once I know I'll let everyone know.

Two of the programmers have been doing custom work for clients, so they have not been working on Nicecoder products for a bit.

I think that's the list so far of what has gone on in October. I already told the programmers that I wasn't happy with the performance and it needs to step up.

So let me throw this out there at the bottom of a thread that no one will probably read. If you can give us an idea for a script AND if we create it, I'll make sure you get a reward. Yes you can send them via PM if you prefer for them to not be public.

Two possible ideas ( which probably wont even be good ones ) but :

1 - What about creating an addon to IndexU thats a CMS? Sorta like that way vBAdvance is for vBulletin.

2 - I've tried a BUNCH of the YouTube like scripts out there and unless you want to spend some big money, they aren't worth a damn That being said, a YouTube type script would be good too

this is a small script apparently, I'll have to see it to judge it.

Give me a bit more info on the CMS idea, what would it be used for exactly?

Well... My brain is a bit fried today... My son is really sick and its been a tough day to say the least.

Off the top of my head, it basically could be used for empowering IndexU to be a total solution website, if the main purpose of your site is not to be a directory.

I know alot of people who's directory is not the main purpose or focus of their website. Its used to compliment it... So why not make it so that IndexU can be a total solution rather than just a portion of it

Sorry to hear that, hope he gets better quickly.

As for indexu being a part of the website, that's what we're doing with the integration part. We're making IndexU be able to be added onto vb, phpbb, wordpress etc and we'll be adding more soon.

To me a CMS is a backend script used to add and edit pages of a website. Well IndexU already does that. Perhaps not as well as full fledged CMS's but it does do it.

I think what you're looking for would be integration with a CMS like phpnuke, postnuke, joomla, mambo, drupal or something similar. I agree this would good. I know that an integration plugin was started for joomla but there were difficulties so it was stopped for now.

I have recently tried the idea using indexu as a cms to migrate a static html site.

The actual links directory part of the script could be used as a posh "Link Exchange".

What stopped me from continuing was the way indexu called custom pages, I.E = page.php?id=directory

This means the sites entire link structure would change and would not be very good for seo.

What i find anoying is in the backend when your viewing all the files for a template...

And you cannot organise your custom pages in a directory.(directorys get treated as files)

You Cannot create html pages that are part of the main pages, custom page only.

You cannot edit the admin theme files from the backend

Other than that indexu could be used as a cms,

Feel free to make your suggestions on the projects page. There should be one suggestion per submission so that we can track each one.

Would it not be possible to use mod_rewrite in the .htaccess to create seo url's for this? If my memory serves me correctly, this was talked about once before.

Looks like inspiremes landing page is gone over at indexu.co.uk.

But you can still get to his joomla site at indexu.co.uk - Home

Yes there was a rewrite for page.php on the forum somewhere.

echo@ thanks for the URL, I only saw that his main page wasn't working and did not know the address of any internal pages. To me I thought he had taken it down.
