If your interested I am setting up a site that will list Agents, Home Service Providers and Virtual Tour Comapnies and act similar to Service Master where Agents will pay for leads to customers. I also own virtual tour software that is being recoded to allow hosting on a unix shared server with mysql. You can see that software here http://www.hometourstore.com
They are adding many functions and a new design theme.
I could use some help with some of this if anyone is interested.

for a site like this i would use a dedicated server to start with, i would expect alot of traffic, and i hight server load with software like that, you might want to rethink your plain.

you will get your site kicked off a shared server for useing too many reasorses.

The developers have already tested 25 instances of the program running more than 500 virtual tous and 50 video tours on each instance on a dedicated server. We had to add a little more ram but we ran it for more than a month with heavy usage without a problem. I have several servers in a co-lo in phoenix so that is not a problem. But I want to sell this as a script to any site that wants to add virtual and video tours. There is nothing out there like that. Go check... I have been doing this for 7 years.

1 instance on any given shared server should not run into any problems. The instances we host will be on ours and we will know how many each server can handle.

well i am not compleatly sure of your business plan, i gather you want to get realestate agents to post on your site for a flat rate or a commision.

i would recomend going to http://www.infousa.net and buying a list of the realestate agents in the us and send out a mailing telling of your service.
use SIC code 6531 when you do your search
the list 263,447 in all of us will cost $28,188.83, damn thats alot.
but i could be worth it if your software is up to par. thare are alot of realesate web site out there already.

Yeah that is a lot.... Actually there are better ways of obtaining that info. There are (a lot) cheaper db's, but we have actually been using and had good luck with Innerprise (http://www.innerprise.net). I was going to ask these guys if they have a way to import from that program like extreme dmoz.

Most agents and home service companies have a website anyway now.
Listings are 1 aspect of the plan but we also want to setup a nationwide (world) network of virtual tour providers (using our software) that will pull listings from each of their sites to the national site. You may have quite a few real estate sites out there but most are text listings with maybe a picture or two.
They will only find virtual and or video listings on ours through our
network of affiliates. Enhanced call routing, enhanced search and order routing and national advertising and support (including complete marketing packages for selling tours to Agents, Power point presentations, business card templates, video software guides (camtasia studio) for every aspect of creating and marketing the tours, camera, lens and video packages etc...
