Default Looking for new template design

    Hi,

I thinking about building a new review/rating site oriented toward entertainment sites (e.g. video, TV, games, etc.). I'm looking for someone who can put together a new template for me, that has the following features:

    1) Fluid width template

    2) Horizontal listing blocks for newest listings, hot listings, and editor's picks which appear above the directory.

    3) I may also need to have some customized plugin that would emulate this Wordpress plugin: Spam-free, but this is optional and can be performed as a separate project.

    4) Link to a current Wordpress blog

Of the directories I have seen so far, I would say that I am looking for quality along these lines: WeddingsOnly, but I am looking to place blocks and menus in different areas.

If you think you can help out with this project, please let me know of your interest, along with some examples of your portfolio. If you can give me a guesstimate of costs, I would appreciate it. If you need more info, I will be happy to answer any questions, as best I can, since I have not seen version 6 yet and do not know whether what I am asking for is even doable.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Hi Rich...

While I cant really help with this project, I wanted to let you know that there is a MOD for integrating Wordpress into IndexU v 5.4. I'm sure the MOD will be upgraded to work with version 6 once its released.

You can find that MOD, plus 50 other MODs at IndexUDirectory. The link is also in my signature. There is a fee of $39.99, but you get all those MODs and any future MODs that Zubby ( Directory Owner ) creates.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the info and resource. Looks like there are lots of good things to check out over at IndexUDirectory.

I like the layout on your Web4URL directory and I also like the one on IndexUDirectory. Do you or does anyone else know of any person or group that does themes for IndexU? Thanks again for your help.

    Hi all,

I took a look at the mods. From my understanding so far, most of these mods (maybe all) will have to be modified for V6. Does this sound right?

    Thanks.

What you want to do is possible.

IndexU 5.4 comes with a word filter, which catches spam quite well. Version 6 has a plugin for spam filters. I have not used it yet.

I know you stated that you were going to wait until version 6 was released, and that's fine. I've got about two to three weeks of work for clients right now so I wouldn't be able to make you an offer for this work yet. Hopefully I can get a lot of it done sooner and can get you a quote and a timeframe shortly.

    Hi,

Thanks much Bruce. Right now I am busying myself reviewing the various resources for IndexU, catching up on some current posts/comments on the product, and looking over some of the 5.4 code (though I do not know if this is really relevant anymore). So far, everything looks good. I just need some feedback on the V6 code and architecture or to look at it myself, to get some comfort level. So far, my biggest problem with directory scripts have been the architecture and maintainability of code. If I am going to put up a visitor oriented site, I need a script that is stable, usable, and has good performance characteristics. Back to work!

Thanks again for your assistance. Possibly we will be able to work together on my project.

    Regards,
    Rich

A lot of the 5.4 code is being moved over and updated. So it should be relavent.

I haven't even really looked at v6 at all

    Hi,

Here are some further specs that may influence the theme:

    1) Color scheme similar to OVGUIDE.com

    2) I do not need the categories in the main column. Main categories in the side right column will be sufficient.

    3) I will eventually want to put some google adsense ads (or similar) up at the top of the page and possibly in a side column. Not initially though.

    4) Search to display Hottest, Editor's picks, Most Popular at the top of the page.

I saw some themes on Themes4U.net that could serve as a starting point.

Hope this provides some further definition to the project.

Thanks Bruce. I think I will have a closer look at 5.4. Since I do not have access to the source code yet, I will rely on what I read and feedback from others. Thanks again.

As a note, the main categories can appear in a block (most templates do this already) and they do not need to be shown in the main (center) area of the site. So far I've never really seen anyone do this.

Thanks Bruce for the info. The reason I would like to do this is for SEO purposes. I have noticed, via my own experimentation, that Google prefers fresh data at the top of the page, and no more than a limited number of links on the page (say 100). So, the way I would structure the page, is to have the new listings at the top, followed by Editors Picks (which I can rotate), and then Hot Listings. The categories would be in the right hand column. Also, I would probably need to add a plugin or change the code, so that all links would be NoFollow (SEO and Google compliance reasons). I think it would make for a nice SEO design and I am dying to try it out.

    Thanks again,
    Rich

It's a simple code change to make all links have a nofollow. I detailed that on my site a while back and posted it to the forum here as well.

Thanks Bruce. I'll check out your site for the code, when V6 becomes available. If a reach a level of comfort (which I am rapidly reaching), I'll just buy a license and then have access to the new V6 code.

    Thanks again for your help.
