    Default Software used in development

I thought I would start a thread listing software I have found useful in deveoping sites. I know that others have mentioned software in different threads but it would be nice to have it in just thread.

So here are few of mine:

    html editor:
for just plain ascii it is hard to beat editplus at http://www.editplus.com. Also handles php/perl and offers a preview of the page without using IE or NS.

    calendar:
http://www.3deearts.com. It is written in perl but it is really teriffic. I customized a little bit to add some mouseover changes to the day, month, week, year. If you buy it, let me know and I will let you know how to do it.

image editor: FREE http://www.irfanview.com/ great for viewing, renaming, thumbs and resizing.

also photoimpact from http://www.ulead.com/ I have even used it to create some great looking banners, backgrounds, etc.

FTP: http://www.ipswitch.com/ The lite version is free. Yep, it is old but I just like the interface.

    also: http://www.smartftp.com/ which is free

    Message Board: FREE http://fud.prohost.org/forum/
I know everyone has their favorite and here is mine. I've installed and used on mysites over the years: vBulletin, ikonboard, invisionboard, phpbb, ultimateboard, yabb. Right out-of-the-box FUDForum beats them all. and the install is just linking it up to mySQL and couple of clicks.

If you have listed your favorites in a different thread, how about put them here too.

Good post this will help some people.

    I would like to add:

Mambo CMS (condent management system) http://www.mamboservers.com

    Invision Forums
    http://www.invisionboard.com/

The true beauty of both of these is that they are Search engine friendly!!! So you if you want to be found, use these and they will help. Mambo has a "built in" mod rewrite to turn a string from:

    index.php?bob=2

    into

    index/bob/2

    Search engines LOVE it =)

I'd love to be able to integrate INDEXU with Mambo. At least to get them to share the Mambo userbase.

Anyone ever take a look at it or have any idea how it can be done?

This can be done with a wrapper mod which can be found in the mombo mods, you wrap mombo around indexu. I am in the process of implementing on my site.

You just strip indexu down to tbe bare necessities, i.e. drop the header, footer and make it into a single column site then enter the info into the wrapper and there you have it.

I will have mine done I hope next week.

Yes, but that doesn't make them use the same user table, I believe.

It might be confusing to users to have to log in twice using different logins for different things on the same site.

True on that part, however I do not us the the membership capabilities of indexu. So for me it is no problem.
