    Lightbulb Important link structure within your own directory

    Most people focus so much on getting links from other sites and ignore their own website link structure. Sometimes we may inadvertantly make our own website popular under a term we don't care about. For example, currently indexu is structured with a link called 'Top' on all browsing pages (so you may have hundreds of unwanted anchor text links to your homepage). Now, do you really want to rank higher under the term 'Top'? ...Most people would probably benefit using another term.

    So there are 2 solutions to this problem:

    1) Place a 'nofollow' tag.

    OR

    2) Replace and Remove that term with a term that you want to rank higher on search engines.

    It would be nice if someone can tell us where to edit the word 'Top' in IndexU.

    You can change it in "Phrases.php"

    I think it is first or second line;

    $lang['top'] = _('Top');
    change to

    $lang['top'] = _('C H A N G E');

    I found it:

    From the Admin area, it is under Tools> Language Modifier> English.php

    I've never seen phrases.php ...may be that is the location under the deluxe indexu?

    phrases.php is from IndexU Deluxe. When you're not posting in a version specific forum you should always mention what version you're using.

    Search engines spider through your pages, however the way you structure your link architecture tells search engines which pages are more important and what text anchors are applied. For example, let's say you want to rank high on the term 'cars directory'. Now you have the anchor text 'home' for all links within your site that bring you back to your main page. So, I suggest you keep 'home' for users (insert a nofollow tag), and at the bottom of all your pages you insert 'cars directory' link that also bring to your homepage.
    This way you are getting many links with good anchors pointing to your main page.
