So here I was, lamenting the fact that I don't have enough to do in life. So I decided I needed another dedicated server on the lower end of the power spectrum for automated backups.
I've been looking for a server for a while now, and have now found one. Honestly the search wasn't that difficult, it was just my lack of time and apathy that impeded the search.
The new server is a P3 733 with 256MB of ram, 300GB of bandwidth and a 40GB hard drive running linux and DirectAdmin. This isn't a lot of power, but it's for FTP backups once a week, how much power does it really need?
I've heard many of you speak in the past of it being hard to find hosting, and many of you ending up with hosting that completely sucks. This server should be able to run at least 15 domains with decent traffic on it IF i really wanted to. It could be pushed up to 25-30 if I paid an extra few dollars for more memory. Of course if they were really low traffic sites (or static HTML) then I could drop a lot more on there and move them as they got bigger. The limiting factor here of course is the CPU.
The memory upgrade is $5 per month or I can "one time" the memory for $40 for another 256MB.
The server cost me a $25 setup fee and a HUGE setback of $19 per month.
Yup, $19 a month for a dedicated server. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a solution for everyone. But there are deals out there like this ALL the time. Depending on your level of skill and knowledge you can run a server on your own for less than the cost of a reseller account.
No, I'm not saying where it isThey have one more of these servers for $19 a month and I'm thinking of grabbing it as well.
