Add On Programs

I was looking at my control panel today and say a bunch of add on programs that were available.

Things from Fantastico? My host is hostgator for anyone who uses them. Things like phpchat, help desk, argora shopping cart etc, blog stuffs....What's the point? Would the url for that be like www.mywebaddress.com/chatroom? Then create a link to that seperate site?

Just wondering if anyone has used anything like that.

Fantastico is a server side script that will install numerous scripts for you with very little input.

You can install blogs, chat, shopping carts etc. They're nice to use, but typically out of date and in some cases that can mean buggy or even vulnerable software.

You can check to see if Fantastico has the latest version by visiting the site for the script and seeing if the version match.

Fantastico doesn't do too bad a job keeping up with current versions, unless the host doesn't have Fantastico configured to do updates, or they set it to update only once a month.

You can specify where you want the script to install. So in theory, yes, you can tell it to install the chat script in root/chatscript and then put a link to it on in IndexU.
