Is there a way to allow a member to opt out of being listed on the member list?

Not out of a stock IndexU installation. If a member is verified they will appear in the list.

Your choices are to disable the member list (I do that for most of my sites) or to add a field to your idx_users to display or not display their info and change the code on your site to reflect this field.

I find that most people have no legitimate business knowing who else is on the site other than to possibly use the list for some type of harvesting.
