    Default vBulletin 4.0 integration

    Hi!

I have pretty much decided on IndexU as the direction I want to go, but with the new vBulletin 4.0 version coming out in a few months I was wondering if there were plans to update the integration module for IndexU as well?

Since we will be moving ahead with the new vB version, my decision to go with IndexU depends on whether or not I can use it going forward.

    Thanks!

vbulletin 4.0 is still in beta phase. So we will wait until they release gold/stable version since it's possible they make some changes. If the new version doesn't work we will update the integration script.

Yep, it's in beta until early next year. I'm glad to hear you'll be continuing to support the integration. It bodes well for my decision to go with IndexU.

    Thanks.

Arkham, be wary here, the last time I used the plugin we all thought this was going to enable automatic logins across scripts.
Unfortunately it doesn't , so users have to login to both scripts and also log out, which sucks..

    Please read the following thread

Not sure if this feature has been implemented

Thanks for the reminder. I was aware that the plugin originally didn't autologin, but I was under the impression that that problem had been resolved. If it doesn't autologin then I can't go with IndexU as I need a product that integrates with vB relatively seamlessly.

Could one of the developers/staff confirm that this is the case with the plug-in as it stands now?

That's correct. The integration require login on both script. Indexu uses vbulletin user database, so user registration and lost password forwarded to vbulletin page.

So if IndexU is using the vBulletin user database, why isn't a user automatically recognized when they've already logged in via vBulletin?

If a user visits my 'main' site, running vBulletin, and logs in, then goes to the IndexU section, the user has to log in again on the IndexU page(s)?

If so, are there any plans to improve the plug-in in order to afford a more seamless integration?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I figured the cookies would be part of the reason, but isn't there a way integrate the cookies/sessions? Eg drop or read a cookie automatically based on whether or not an existing vB session is active?

It is not as simple like that. Indexu authentication is so simple. It store username and encrypted password in cookie variables. But vbulletin is different. It use its own algorithm. They use dynamic salt value to formulate the encryption which is difficult. Otherwise indexu is build inside vbulletin platform, it would be easy. But indexu has its own platform.

So there wouldn't be a way for the integration to just check to see if the user is logged into vB and just skip using it's own cookie? I think phpLD checks to see if the user is logged in, and then logs them into IndexU. I think they also have some permissions based on what is set up for that user in vBulletin, so that the users don't have to log in twice.

Do you think there will ever be an integration that doesn't require users to log in separately to IndexU? Or is it something that may be possible down the line?

Thank you again for your help.

That's not how I read his response at all. It doesn't look like there's going to be a decent level of integration with vB4.0 (e.g. logging into vBulletin also logs user into IndexU).

Unfortunately because of that I had to give up on IndexU and look elsewhere. I still haven't found a suitable option though. It's too bad, because IndexU looked like the end of my search.
