Default Upgrading from heavily modded version

What would I need to do to upgrade from my old indexu that is modded without losing all the work? Is there a list of changes so I can make them manually in the scripts to add the new features?

    nope

start again, the changes are so vast their is no point in trying to salvage work - your going to have to reapply the mods manually, and also change them as you go.

I have 2 mods I need to change
    1) Image resize on upload
    2) Hide email address and make people use sendmail

If people make chanegs to mods for version 5 rememebr to post it here so we dont all go around doing the same work!

Well I looked through the scripts and dont see that many changes. All the old database fields are the same, jsut minor changes to the scripts besides the template system which i would leaev as it is now. A few new functions like the reciprocal link check in misc , used in add.php . Looks simple to add teh page caching and its the same code used on other sites. Would be nice if there was a list of the changes to the scripts so I didnt have to search through it though.

Why cant I just run the database upgrade which adds the new tables and upload the new scripts in the admin folder?

Their is no problem with the database that will upgrade fine. You will need to work on the templates as they have been changed to smarty - but thats not a massive job, but really i see no other way than to upgrade to version 5 and re-apply the mods.

From what i have seen pretty much all files have changed, and it works completly differently with the smarty templates... this is a big version change.

Yes but im going to keep the current or old template system so where is the big change? I installed the page caching and it is working , just had to remove the $ sign from templates and worked fine.

    good luck...

new systems with payment, and image upload are fairly big changes. depends what you want to move over exactly... which mods do you want?
