I run 5 indexU sites and get no spam anyway, indexUs latest version is pretty good at keeping it out, worry about it IF you find its a problem.
Main IndexU sites : | Campsite Directory | Tourist Guide | Places2B | AfterDirectory <-- Half price submission using coupon DP50 (from just $11 premium, and $10 basic permanent )

Let me just add, that if you do NOT require user authentication then you will experience more spam. By requiring users to login spam is tremendously reduced.

    Hi,

Thanks for the recommendations. My site gets probably much more bots and spam than most directories and I have already had a considerable amount of experience in this area, and I would rather be proactive and put the proper anti-spam in place prior to deployment.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Hi Bruce,

Thanks. Yes, am aware of this. However, in my experiences, without excellent anti-spam protection, I do get more spam than I can deal with, so I try to be proactive and build anti-spam protection into the solution before I actually deploy the script.

    Thanks again for your help.

I'm a bit behind in domain speculation, but links.com would probably sell for between 100-300k. It's been 2 years since I was doing speculation and tracking sales, but damn good names are impossible to get now.

Of course you could always get thisismycloneoflinks.com for $7

    Hi Bruce,

lol. Linksclone.biz would be kewl. :-)

I have no idea what Links.com would go for. My goal is to continue to work on it until I find a good idea that really clicks and starts attracting regular visitors. The directory idea is an interim idea that I can experiment with, that is why I need to do it at relatively low cost. Once I see how visitors react, I will either enhance the site or move onto a new one.

pizza.com sold for 6 million recently, i would say links.com is a gold mine.

    Hi dePaulus,

Thanks for the list! It's interesting. Tough to say where Links.com stands next to these names. I am sure, it would have more value than it has now, if I can move more traffic to it. Building a review/rating site for entertainment sites (and possibly other categories) might add some incremental traffic. But then again, maybe not. So far, everything I have tried has pretty much fallen flat. So wish me luck on the next experiment.

Thanks again for bringing this list to my attention.

:-) Yes, I heard about pizza.com. It think it has been verified. They were talking about it on namepros.com. It was a private sale, so no one yet know who purchased it. Nice name though!

Thanks for all of your help so far.

See how things have changed since i've been out of it? I'm still an exclusive member of dnforum.com so I could go back any time, but unless you have a lot of cash to toss around it's not really worth it.

Of course, there's always the drop game, that's cheaper unless you get into bidding wars.

The domain game seems to be pretty tough. I don't go to DNForum or Namepros all that much, but these are full-time players who have put a lot of time and money in their craft and I am in no position to compete against them. Maybe if I was 30 years younger. :-)
