    Default Seeral presales questions

I am interested in indexu. Can you answer the following questions?

How can I see the full documention for indexu?

Are you located in the U.S.? I need support for U.S. time zones.

Do you have same day turn around time on support tickets from U.S. time zones?

Can I add custom fields for users?

Can a listing/link appear in 15 different categories?

Can two listings with the same title exist?

Also, I ran across many broken links on your site. First impressions are important in the buying decision.

admin demo link on this page does not go to admin demo - http://www.nicecoder.com/demo.php

when i click on a main category at the following, it does not take me to the sub categories or listings - http://nicecoder.com/demo/indexu//

link to indexutemplates.com is not working on this page - http://www.nicecoder.com/indexu_templates.php

the box to enter my email address for the newsletter is not working at - http://www.nicecoder.com/indexu_whatis.php

    Thank you.

I've written the install documentation for v6 already, but any other guides/manuals will have to wait for a while. You can find the manual at indexusupport.com

Are you located in the U.S.? I need support for U.S. time zones.
    No, I'm in Canada (CST)

Do you have same day turn around time on support tickets from U.S. time zones?
Turn around time for tickets/forum posts varies from minutes to typically a max of a few hours

Can I add custom fields for users?
    Of course

Can a listing/link appear in 15 different categories?
    Nope

Can two listings with the same title exist?
    Yes

admin demo link on this page does not go to admin demo - http://www.nicecoder.com/demo.php
The demo was just moved from an external domain to a subdirectory, I'll get Dody to fix up those URL's. You can check the admin panel demo out at http://nicecoder.com/demo/indexu/admin/ and use the username and password of demo

when i click on a main category at the following, it does not take me to the sub categories or listings - http://nicecoder.com/demo/indexu//
Looks like Dody forgot to update category paths. You can check a sort of demo out at http://www.indexu.com there is no demo login on this site.

link to indexutemplates.com is not working on this page - http://www.nicecoder.com/indexu_templates.php
I believe that site is no longer being maintained and they shut it down

    Thanks bruceper.

I checked the demo and only saw custom fields for links and not users. Where would I add custom fields for users?

I really need to play with a working copy but the demo has some of the features turned off. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

You would need to add the fields manually, including adding the field in the database. It's not hard to do at all, but no one (up until you) has ever asked about custom fields for users.

The features in admin are disabled for security reasons, I don't have any suggestions.

    Thanks bruceper.

It looks like there is a way to have the same listing appear in multiple categories. What is he maximum 'additional categories' a listing could be shown in?

If there is a limit on the above, and since a user can enter multiple new listings, is there a copy listing function so they would not have to renenter all he inforation over again?

How many default templates come with indexu. I know there are more to be had but is there just one in the installation package?

I wish there were a way for my to play with a full working vesion. I already purchased another directory script and it did not turn out as planned.

    Thanks.

    Hi there disco4me.

I've also looked at other scripts that didn't turn out well for me during the review process. Do you mind sharing your experiences? I am in contact with another domain owner who is looking at IndexU, and we are sharing observations. I am sure he would also like to hear about your experiences.

The issue with multiple categories seems to be an ongoing one with IndexU. It keeps coming up in discussions. Here is one thread where a mod is discussiond.

Good luck with your evaluation process!

A listing can appear by default in up to 3 categories. Ofcourse you can add it in more if you would like by making multiple listings.

However please note that sites like Google hate to see links spammed all over a site. If you really want a listing sitewide then you can place those listings in what is called a block, which appears on the side of IndexU.

There is no function to "copy" a listing. As I just stated it's not something good to do and in most directories doesn't work well.

With version 6 having been released only last friday there is one template available from Nicecoder. There are more to come soon.

IndexU comes with a 30 day guarantee. If it's not what you need then you can ask for a refund. However the demo should have plenty for you to look at, what is it about the demo that you want to do?

I was just hoping for the admin panel to be 100% functional so I can try out the software over the next couple of days. I've found many things that are

"Sorry, this feature is disabled on indexu demo. Please contact support@nicecoder.com for more information in this regards."

I understand the reason for doing this but it makes it hard to see all those functions. I know of two other directory script providers who automatically reset their demo every hour or so to make up for what people go in and change. That might be a consideration for you.

With the demo and in particular I would like to be able to; add custom fields, see and try the template manager, be able to add a link, have a link I add be viewable on the frontend, and see some links in the front end demo.

    Thanks

I've thought about talking to Dody about a demo that resets itself. Since the demo site recently moved it could probably be done in a few days.

You can see links pretty much on anyone's site, feel free to click on them.

The template editor is just an editor, think of it like notepad in a brower but with no tools. You can just edit the file and save it.

Adding a link is simpler for an admin than for a user. There are less required fields.

Custom fields is quite nice, you can add radio buttons, dropdown boxes, multiple choice all with your own options and then place a simple code where you want it to appear and it's done. No need to create large amounts of form boxes.
