    Default Reciprocal Link Feature?

How can one add a required reciprocal link feature for someone that is joining your link exchange?

that feature is not currently available and I have not seen any requests for it in the next version in INDEXU.

INDEXU would need to be modified to do what you suggest. There is a feature to check the URLs in the database which could probably be modified (by any deceint PHP programer) to be used in the add process to check for a return link at a particular URL before allowing the link to be added.

while it is after the fact, check out http://www.idevdirect.com/software/idevreciplinkcheck/

Can it be done with INDEXU? Yes.

Does it currently exist in INDEXU? No

But here is what you can do:

you can add a new field called recip_link and make that field a required field. then the user must enter something or the link will not be added.

there is a mod/hack that will check what is entered to see if it is a webpage that actually exists.

But none of the above will check to see if your link actually exists on the recip webpage.

You could pay someone to do add that feature.

Or you could wait until the feature is added to INDEXU. The main programmer for INDEXU, dody, indicated that it is a feature that he will add to INDEXU.

    esm,

"you can add a new field called recip_link and make that field a required field. then the user must enter something or the link will not be added.

This is what I need as I can check the page myself with the address that they give to see that they did the reciprocal link back before I added them to the database.

Will the hack that you mention actually show in the admin area where they said they put the reciprocal link at?

In other words in the admin area when I click on Validate Links would the hack show me the reciprocal link?

    Thanks

The hack will just show whether or not the URL exists. You would still need to visit it.

Yes, all fields, including custom fields ( those added by you to INDEXU ), can be viewed in link validate screen in the admin panel during the link validation process.

This would give you the opportunity to verify if a recip link has been added. You could copy and paste the URL into another instance of your browser and check for the recip link.

Although you can still use the hack I mentioned to see if the URL exists, what I would probably do is hack the link validate screen and add a clickable hyperlink for the recip_link field. This should be an easy process if you do not add too many custom fields to the link table.

But that only verifies the recip link at that particular time. You would probably need somethink like reciprocal links checker software to keep them up to date.

see the msg http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...&threadid=1341 for the "online" hack

    esm and kosmo, I visited
    http://www.idevdirect.com/software/idevreciplinkcheck/

I'm not sure how they work, they say they can spider the website and get link code for reciprocal link. Then it give the result. Spidering website and grap all its content is could be slow. I just wondering that they say they can check 60 sites in 8 seconds. It's very fast, compared with indexu check url (in admin area) that check the http header itself is need 20 minutes to check 100 links although. It use socket connection
esm, I in perl has LWP module to run multiple connection at once. I don't think PHP has one.

I think we can do it without need to visit the website, just let the script do this work.

    Default Arelis

    ai,

the best reci-link prog I know is the german ARELIS (sorry, but for you they wrote it in english first ).

My plan is to use a required field with the exact URL of the backlink.
Then it is my work to put this backlink into Arelis and the software will check the links in seconds and supports special mail templates to write to the linkpartners or search new partners.

Also I got a small hack, that changes the indexu link-fomat - now I'm counting with javascript and use the real link URL in my directory. So my link-partner will get FULL link-popularity from my site

    Greetings
    Frank
