    Default Question about feeds

I am considering the indexu script it looks like a great solution. Playing with the free version now..
The question is about the news feed ....every site i have looked at has the same three news stories on the front page. Why are they the same on every directory and havent updated in the last few days ? also are there any coupons available for the 5 site license?

By default there is a yahoo entertainment feed included. That feed can be changed to anything very easily.

You can use another yahoo feed or a google feed or anyone else's feed that you wish. You can also disable the feed if that is your desire as well.

As for not updating, IndexU will cache the feed just so it doesn't update a lot. The cache time can be set simply and easily.

    Here is an example feed
    <%block_rss_feed url="http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=chrysler&ie=UTF-8&output=rss" title="Top Stories" template="block.rss_feed.html" max_item="3" cache_time="86400"%>

Change the URL, and the feed changes, change max_item and the number of stories changes, and lastly change the cache time and the stories update more often.

As for the 5 site license I'm not sure what you mean? You can purchase an individual license which costs $99 or an unlimited license which costs $499. Unlimited is exactly that, as many sites/domains as you want. There are no sales on currently, and no coupons available.

Thanks for the explanation on the feed situation...I guess most sites that i have seen have left it to the default setting. I must have been reading an old post on another forum regarding the coupons although I read it today im sure it must be old. It had a nice 5 site plan priced for us not to rich guys. Thanks again for the info .

    Bruce...

I think John was offering a discount on a 5 site license for Digital Point Forum Members... I read the same thing you did Bio...

If you search on the Digital Point Forum site for it, I think John has posted the coupon code in there. I'm pretty sure John's username on that site is 'IndexU'.

Thanks FSG That is where i saw the coupon. Do you know if its still available? I would buy the five site license. I like this program and features alot but I am concerned that it may be to technical for mods for me. Im not a coder so when I see code its all greek to me. Im hoping that I can pay someone to make the mods for me and populate some specific categories. How long has this script been available?

The script has been around for a while. Although support has been spotty at times, there are great people here on the forums ( Inspireme, Bruceper ), who know this script very well and go well beyond the call of duty to help people out...

I'm not a coder either, but I'm able to easily modify and make changes that are needed for my likings. I'm sure you'll find the same to be true too! Just dont be scared of it... Thats what I learned. And if / when you screw something up, one of us will be here to help you though it

The support site is down, but e-mail support ( support@nicecoder.com ) is alway reliable. Zubby does a good job of answering support request and helping to solve problems as well.

Go to the Digital Points Forum and PM 'dodyrw' and he will give you the coupon codes. I just saw the post over there for it.

I don't visit many forums any more, if I do visit any it's only dnforum.com where I'm an exclusive member (big bux so I might as well use it). So since I don't visit any forums really then I'm not aware of any coupons that may be available.

I suppose I should find out what is available

As a side note - support is about to change into something better, both via email and on the forum. A little bird told me so. (really!)

As for mods, most of them are very detailed as to where to go and what to change. Remember that if you keep a backup of your files and you mess something up you can always fix what you did. That's the joy of learning.
