Hi,
Is there any tutorial about converting/configuring according to the subj?
Why don't you release an IndexU (sub)version, that'll functionate like PHPmydirectory?

And what is a YP-style business directory?

Why do people always want to mimic the yellow pages and their crappy, spammy website?
Yes you could easily use IndexU to make a crappy website if you have some html knowledge. You can do anything with it if you have imagination and skills.
Imagination and Orginality is what wins in the directory world. Atleast thats my opinion

Bruceper,
(yp=yellow pages)
Because people are stupid - that is the answer :-) But aren't you here to serve some of the stupid clients?
P.S. Don't you think YellowPages.com&SuperPages.com are crappy (hint - 20M users/month each)?
So, keep in mind, i'd like to see such a tutorial.
There won't be a tutorial on how to edit html, there are thousands of sites out there that do that already.
And I'll have you know, I never called anyone stupid. But yes those sites are crappy. Why do they get used? Because people need to look up phone numbers. That's the only reason.
Dont misunderstand the fact that they have good traffic because they have a good site. They get good traffic because people NEED what they offer.
Their sites are spammy, overly populated with annoying ads and appear cluttered. I will say that the landing page (index) is quite decent, but the directory is the part that kills it.
If you want a REAL directory, be unique but copy successful business practices. The yellow pages are successful because they print millions of phone books and they've done that for years. People know them by name.
People don't know you by name (your site I mean) and if you clone the yellow pages then you'll just end up disappointing your visitors because they'll expect information they NEED and you'll have nothing they want.
We still get people who come along and say they want to mirror dmoz. And they expect IndexU to do everything dmoz does for $99. But they don't want to put in $2500 a month for the server farm that would be required, never mind the thousands of editors that dmoz already has.
It takes a lot more than just a script or a template to make a site successful. It takes a lot of work and time.
Bruceper,
Thank you for clear explanation. But still, there is at least one great commercial php script (I don't want to promote it twice), purposed to be business directory. Which means, there is a demand for it.
Anyway, I've purchased WPDPro today, and it looks great!

Glad you are liking WPDir.
There may be demand from site owners, but in all honesty and in a good conscience I can't do that to you. I'll see if we can do a yellow pages type of template for next month, but I still think it's a bad idea.
Developing a product, that has proven market segment, is never a bad idea, IMHO :-)
If you'll consider yp-style template developing, this link may be useful PMDTemplates.com :: Business Templates
