Default IF YOU ARE THINKING OF PURCHASING indexu

    SEE http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...ead.php?t=1298

I am thinking of "fixing" a lot of the bugs in v3.1 ( the current version as of 9-Aug-2004 ) and offering it for sale to legally registered owners of INDEXU. S
ort of an ENHANCED INDEXU 3.1. If you are going to purchase INDEXU ( and it is a good links program ), you should at least get your money's worth.

You can see the bugs in this forum:
    http://www.nicecoder.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=7

I compiled a list of most of the bugs here:
    http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...ead.php?t=2072

I would also incorporate a number of the MODs listed in this forum:
    http://www.nicecoder.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=8

    and at my site.
    http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/inde...=tree&goto=818

Well, let me know if there is any interest. If not, I will just forget it because it will take some time and effort to do...

    Default Very Worthwhile

    Sounds very worthwhile ESM,

Your Mods certainly make the application more user friendly.

    Keep us posted

well, I'm not sure if anyone is still purchasing INDEXU. If you do your homework and read thru some of the posts in the forum, I certainly would not buy it. and an "enhanced" version will not be cheap and will only add to the cost. But then an "enhanced" version would be a worthwhile program.

    well, hope springs eternal.

well, it will be less than $99 but more than $25, with a committment to fix any other bugs in the 3.1 version, if I can, at no charge.

You must have purchased 3.1 in order to purchase the enhanced version. Sorry about that but 3.1 is not mine to sell.

Well, it will take some time to put in all the code fixes and then enter the MODs.

IF I decide to do it...

well, this is still an evolving idea for me. I would include most of them but I haven't decided on the emailer and banner mods. the mod_rewrite may be an optional mod.

but I'll see. just depends on the interest.

As you can imagine every Webmaster got his own idea about what mod are desirable. Could your mod be switch on and off? How compatible with the current template will the be?

yep, I agree with that in general. For example, when I did the first version of the mod_rewrite, I made it optional. And some MODs can be used or not (like the link back checker). But some MODs are just plain needed ( like the password MOD for the modify screen ).

If I do it, it will use the templates. And I may try to do away with the "templates" in the msg.php file. The template structure is cumbersome to work with and does not allow IF statements.

Actually, my Links_Coder ( http://www.indexuhelp.com/link_coder ) is a far superior "front end" for INDEXU. Every time I think about doing something with INDEXU, Links_Coder brings me back to reality.

Anyway, I am still giving it some thought.

Would link_coder works with mu own "Satic page" hack, I am not sure! and you know how much I like to have "real" static pages.

Nope, I doubt that I will ever do "static" pages. And I used static pages for over three years before INDEXU without any problems.

While I certainly admire what you have done, I have never found the argument for static pages a compelling one. While I would never discourage any one from creating them, I am not convinced that they are "better" than dynamic pages. And you can define "better" with any of the arguments set forth for using them.

I'm beginning to think that if I create an enhanced version, that I will do it thru the membership feature at my website (indexuhelp.com). Membership would include the enhanced version.

It just makes sense to do it that way. There is no sense in cluttering up the original 3.1 discussions with discussions of the enhanced version.

I would offer a special discount to existing 3.1 owners. That is the latest thinking.
