    Default 3.2 vs 3.2E?

    1. When will the next official version of IndexU be released?

    2. When will 3.2E be released?

    3. What's the difference between 3.2 and 3.2E (A list or the most important aspects noted)

    4. If I don't like some of the mods of 3.2E, can they be turned off or would I be stuck with them?

    5. Is there currently any discount or will there be a discount if I wait until November 17th, 2004? (Seeing as how there was a 30% off deal last year around this time?)

dody will have to answer that question. but.....next year?

    2. When will 3.2E be released?
    my goal is 9/30

    3. What's the difference between 3.2 and 3.2E (A list or the most important aspects noted)
A LOT OF DIFFERENCE. see http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/inde...=tree&goto=872

    4. If I don't like some of the mods of 3.2E, can they be turned off or would I be stuck with them?
I've tried to give folks the option to use or not use the feature by setting a "flag" - setting a variable to yes/no.

For example, you have the option not only to use or not use spider friendly URLs but if you do, which one, mod_rewrite or "path_info."

Also, you will have the option to use the enhanced template parser or not. Other features just require you to remove the HTML tags from the HTML page (or not include them in your current HTML pages).

    5. Is there currently any discount or will there be a discount if I wait until November 17th, 2004? (Seeing as how there was a 30% off deal last year around this time?)
The discount you refer to was by dody, the owner of 3.2, and he would need to address that question.

So 3.2E and 3.2 are two different packages, meaning that if I buy 3.2E I would be stuck with 3.2E and couldn't go to 3.2 if I wanted without paying for it too. Is that correct?

And where is dody to answer my questions?

Please do not confuse that we officially only release v3.2.
We allow esm as our reseller to package indexu to include his own code hacking and modification. v3.2E will be sold by esm through indexuhelp.com.

if you purchase v3.2E, you would still get v3.2 which means you could use either one. and you would still be able to upgrade to v4.0 should you so desire when it comes out.

But I would recommend you pick a version and stick with it.

Id just like to say that ESM has helped alot with his mods, most of the ones i use are coming out in 3.2e and without them i wouldnt be able to do as much with my site, so i think 3.2e will be worth every cent

Speaking of "every cent" can I get a price comparison on 3.2 and 3.2E... or is there not a set price for 3.2E yet?

Also, dody, do you plan on running any type of special soon? Say 30% (or smaller) off on the 4th anniversary on November 11th?

Another thing, I know it was posted here, but now I can't find it. Where can I find the demo of 3.2E?

    Thanks!

I discuss the pricing in this thread: http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...ead.php?t=2338

My signature line in all my posts has a link to the demo.

    1. Does the template parser simply allow if then statements? I see the example of changing a color of an editors pick, but if I don't know how to code if then statements and I don't care to learn, will I even need the template parser? Have you coded the look of the site any different if the option to get the template parser is choosen? So that the default design automatically uses the if then statements and WILL change the color of editor picked, etc. and if so, what other features of 3.2E will use these if then statements?

    2. The mass emailer simply allows you to send an email to everybody that has ever submitted a link, is that correct?

    3. I understand the banner mod allows you to do all sorts of fancy things with banners, but I had a quick question. If I only want banners in my header and footer or in a specific part of the code, but I have an advertising company handle all the banner rotations, then I don't really need the banner mod either right? For me to get banners with the company that does my banners, all I do is insert specific code into my pages and it will rotate automatically, so in that case I shouldn't need this banner mod. Is that correct?

    4. I am still a little unclear, so if I purchase 3.2E from you, I will have a license to upgrade to future versions from dody/nicecoders, is that correct?

    5. If I don't need two of the extra mods as noted in the $179 price and I just need 1. (the mass emailer) can I get a lower price and only get 1 of the extra mods?

    6. How hard is it to move around the side sections of Indexu? Like the "Top 10", "Directory Statistics", "Who's Online", "Cool Sites", the login, "Announcements", "Tell a Friend", "Advanced Search" and the "Join Mailing List"? Is it fairly simple without moving large chunks of code?

    Thanks.

Use of IF-THEN-ELSE statements allow for a great deal of customization of what is displayed. It allows you to do that without having to learn PHP. That way you don't have to ask for a MOD to do something or hire a programmer to do it for you.

IF statements are easy. We use them all the time in our everyday life. probably once a minute or better. Any time we make a decision, we are using an IF statement.

However, I have made them optional. If you don't want to use them ( there is that word IF, again. I did say we use quite often ), then you don't have to.

I have shown simple examples but even simple usage can be quite powerful.

for example: lets say you sell two types of links. a standard link and a premium link and you use the bid field to distinguish the two. The code is simple:

    <%IF bid>10%>
    HTML for premium listing
    <%ELSE%>
    HTML for premium listing
    <%/IF%>

    or

    <%IF graphic%>
    <td>
    <%ELSE%>
    <td colspan=2>
    <%/IF%>

which allows you to handle the display of an image without creating an ugly table display.

The current template parser for v3.2 cannot do any of the above. It can be done with PHP but it is messy. I know; I have done it both ways.

I have run a number of links sites over the years and I cannot think of a single feature that gives the webmaster more flexability with such a minimum amount of learning.

And if you think the above IF statements are hard, just wait until v4.0 cause you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to hard. If dody implements SMARTY templates with no option for non-SMARTY templates, I will almost guarantee a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth.

    2. The mass emailer simply allows you to send an email to everybody that has ever submitted a link, is that correct?
It can be simple but highly effective since you can pinpoint very precisely who gets the email - back in my marketing days, we called that target marketing. One webmaster said this MOD paid for itself with the first mailing. In terms of generating revenue, it may be almost as good as the IF statement feature.

If you have a banner program that you like, there is no reason to use the integrated banner MOD.

    4. I am still a little unclear, so if I purchase 3.2E from you, I will have a license to upgrade to future versions from dody/nicecoders, is that correct?
Yes, you could upgrade to v4.

    5. If I don't need two of the extra mods as noted in the $179 price and I just need 1. (the mass emailer) can I get a lower price and only get 1 of the extra mods?
You could purchase the basic version and then add the emailer "a-la-carte" - see http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=174 for individual prices.

Moving the "side sections" is easy. The actual php code is only one line so it should be easy to move. Setting up your page itself could be a a chore but that is a different issue.

On this link: http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=174 are any of those mods included in 3.2E or if I want some of those features, do I have to pay the price that is in ()?

you can compare the post you referenced with this one to see which MODs I have currently added: http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/inde...=tree&goto=872

Note the legend in your referenced post:

Installation cost is in parentheses, e.g., ($15).
The MODs listed there are broken down by sections with the cost shown at the beginning of a particular section.

So in the thread where you say: "$199 - for everything." does that include all those mods listed on this page: http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=174 ? I was hoping for something that was setup nicely so I could see what 3.2E has already and what options there was available to me.

I don't really care for going through 2 lists, comparing features, finding out which ones are and aren't included, then seeing which ones I need, adding the price, etc. etc.

So back to my original question, does the $200 get me everything you've modified including the mods on the page mentioned above? (and if not, could you perhaps create a better organized summary of what is what and what the additions to the $200 package would be? It would really help me out.

Thanks for helping me make a decision, I really appreciate it!

the prices of v3.2E are based on the MODs at http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/inde...=tree&goto=872. These are the only MODs that I have planned for installation for this release.

Over the past year and a half, I have created probably several hundred hacks/mods for INDEXU. I have included in v3.2E only those that seem to make sense (like requiring a password sign-in BEFORE someone can see the link information in order to modify it) or those that seem to be popular AND relate to a links type website ( like the mod_rewrite or Links in unlimited Multiple Categories ).

Also, one thing I have done, which I have not listed anywhere, is to optimize some of the code so that it will run faster.

For example, I reduced the code by 70% in the example listed at: http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...ad.php?p=11570
