It would be nice to be able to customize the entire category page rather than just the header and footer! Wouldn't this be an easy addition to make? This would give you the ability to have a top list of each category along the side of the category results and to have banners specific to each category.

Also, will the new script have the ability to display New and Updated list individually for each category? This would also be a great addition.

Is the October 31st release date going to be met?

    Hart,

How is Beta testing going? Are we going to see the new version soon? Is the multiple category feature working correctly?

The multi category feature was setup to have 3 drop down menus for users to add their links but dody found it to be very slow cause of the number of categories that would be displayed.

Someone with over 500 plus categories, would take a bit of time and that was the major problem, brining up about 1500 categories is very time consuming.

I suggested that the drop down menu only display sub categories of that specific category you are adding your links to.

For example, you are adding your links to computers, the drop down menu should only show subcategories under computer as oppose to the entire site saving us time.

That was the major problem we are encountering with the release. We talked about how other scripts added the links, some used category id box for the usuers to enter numbers. Thats just confusing as well.

Dody has been sick for the last few days but last I heard, he has a solution for this problem.

    Hart,

I don't think that would be the best. Most links that I need to list multiple times are in completely different main categories. I think it would be nice to have it set up like In-Link does. After you choose one category then the page reloads with the second drop down menu and then the third and so on. It seems very fast on their demo.

Here's an idea. How about only allowing people who submit their site to submit to 1 category and then having the ability to add to other categories in the Admin section? I would rather choose the categories anyway and this would make things faster for submitters. A catgegory ID box would be fine with me.

Can we download the Beta version yet? I reaqlly need to get things rolling before the end of November. I don't havemuch time for my site after Thanksgiving for a couple of months. I really need to get the need script set up and mu new design ready before then.

    Thanks,

    Craven

I was going through some of my links and realized some need to be put in several different categories. I'm hoping Dody is making it so we can add a link to unlimited amount of categories. I still think maybe this should be done through the Admin Panel.

    Hello,
    i don't like your suggestion, sorry !
I was thinking a lot about this feature and every day i like it more !
Perhaps on my side i will creat the normal katalog with x categories and byside i will sort all links by the ABC. So every link is in two or more categories and the visitors can search by categorie or ABC. Other possiblities for this could be some seconds categories for countries, cities or something like this.

Forthis it is very important, that i can decide witch categories will displayed in the admin menu.

The problem with multiple links is that if you have three drop down menus its two time consuming and takes a toll on the database.

The problem with letting users use link id is that you'll confuse them and they'll either enter the wrong one.

What I do like is the idea of that link being able to refresh so the user can add to another category.

Another problem with letting users add to multiple category is spam, or programs that auto add to your site, which I've had to deal with, and I don't like it very much.

The best option in my opinion is the refresh option which should be done in both the admin cp for admins and also for the user, which should be limited to maybe 3 .

Your opinions and suggestions are always welcome

    Hello,
i'm sorry, i think my english is to bad
What do you mean with refresh option ?

First, for me the release date of V3.1 ist more important as to change every day something for new features

For me it is not important, that the user can take more than one categorie, because the chance is very high, that he will spam my catalog and the chance is very small that he decide the right categories i want to use for his website !

For me it is important that i can decide in admin menu which categories are good for this website.

Perhaps it could look like the auction categories in ebay:

    Pull down menu:
    1. First categorie
    2. Second and third an... is standart nothing

I understand the problem with a lot of categories, but i don't know a good solution without a reload to show the subcategories of the main category i took. (like ebay)

But with a reload it also will cost a lot of time and i think a Pull down with 500 categories will do the same and should be easier for you and we will get the script faster

Multi category feature is only a admin tool, the visitor will abuse it and after a time the admins will turn this feature off, because they have a lot of work to correct the categories the visitors took for their links.

I it is only for me i like the ABC categories very much and i see no problems - first i put indexu.com into the catalogscript categorie and for the second categorie i put the website into S for the company sentraweb - as example.

This is the fastes way and in this example every link is in two categories and this will work very fast for the admin.

By the way, what is with V3.1 and when we can do a first test - i'm very very interested !!!

    Greetings
    Frank

    Hart,

This is the way it should be http://demo.in-link.net/ This is very fast and unlimited. It should be able to limit to X amount of categories through admin panel also.
