Default Mod Of The Month Winner - March

Picking the winner for March was more difficult this time around due to the number of mods released by users. So far this contest has produced a number of mods on the forum and they keep increasing in volume monthly. This is exactly what the mod of the month contest is all about!

I'd like to call a tie, but since no provisions were made for ties I feel that would be taking the easy way out.

Congratulations to mpdaddy and his Improved Link Validation Mod for winning the mod of the month contest for March.

The prize, in case you forgot, is $100 cash! Keep the mods rolling in for your chance to win.

A serious honorable mention goes to esm for his IP Address mod which I will gladly expound in the newsletter that is coming out shortly.

While I'd like to think my IP MOD was in the same league as mpdaddy's Improved Link Validation Mod, I am under no illusion that it was. Mine was more of a technique while his was some serious work.

However, I think he was just wrong to submit his "winning" MOD just one day before the deadline, thereby denying me my just rewards of winning in the one month I had a MOD idea. OK, it wasn't much of a MOD and it was the only idea I had all month but he should still feel ashamed.

But I am willing to let him assuage his guilt-racked actions and send half the prize money my way. My paypal account is in my signature.

Well, according to the rules, you can't win it next month...! Ha! Take that!

May the spam sunami hunt you down and give you your just rewards.

Now if I can just come up with an idea....!

Well, I appreciate the thought behind your "reward" considering I can be a real pain-in-the-a** at times. I was touched. I had already decided that should I ever win the MOD of the month, I would either use it to pay for another license for INDEXU or for the yearly license fee. I will do that in this case.

Actually, mpdaddy has done some really great MODs. Somehow, I would like to see the restriction removed or adjusted that prevents winning twice in a row. A good MOD is a good MOD regardless. maybe if someone wins in consecutive months, instead of money, they get another license or credit toward the license fee for the second win.

Anyway, I wasn't asking for anything. Just having a little fun and creating a little interest in a really great MOD by mpdaddy.

    Thank you.

I agree with you, it's to the best to win everymonth, even if he allready win the previous month, but to keep people motivated in case of a "killer mod contest" dumping the 1st place of the contest everymonth... maybe a good idea is to make multi-level price :

    1st : 100 USD
    2nd : 50 USD

At last we will reconsider this "Multi Level" with better reward and more "position" after the MOD Marketplace will be released ! (I push dody to make a mod marketplace section on nicecoder since a long time, but still no luck for the moment for this)

See ESM, you did't walk away empty handed. Do you know if they have an early warning system for those spam sunami's yet? If not, that may be a good idea for a mod (hint hint). I bet I know at least one person who might buy it, his name starts with domain and ends with swapper.

It was indeed kind of sneaky to slip the mod in on the last day of the month. I saw you were going to have the best mod and I could never let that happen, so I released it. Actually, I had just finished the install instructions the day before and decided to release it. It just happened to be the last day of the month.

For some reason, I still feel a little ashamed and dirty. Why is that? Oh well, better go spend my $100.

    Regards
    Wayne

P.S. Thanks to FSGDAG for the mod idea.

You have to remember, it IS a contest. The best submission will win regardless of time submitted.

I think it's great that John decided to offer esm a reward as well.

I will speak to John and Dody about continuing a monthly second place reward.

The idea for not winning two months in a row was to ensure that other people had a chance to win in case they weren't as stong a programmer or their idea wasn't as good as the previous months winner.

We'll take a look at all of the rules and redo them if necessary.

I think that it's fair you can't win 2 months in a row for the exact reason you stated. I had hopes of winning the contest when I submitted it, but that's not why I create them. I would have submitted it for free no matter what. I charge for some, and I give some away. I felt it was a mod that could help a lot of users and therefore I felt it was appropriate to give it away for free. For me, making mods is a great way to make a few extra bucks for my other projects (I use all the money for restoring my project car).

I think $100 is a lot of money for a program that costs on $99. INDEXU would have to cost $1,000 to justify $100 for a monthly MOD award.

Maybe choose from several options such as $100, a free license to a NICECODER product or waive any annual license fee for a year (or two). And if someone wins it in consecutive months then he cannot choose the $100 for both months, only one month.

As for a MOD marketplace that would be nice. there is one at MODs and AddOn. But it is out of date. Once again I like forum. But the current Blocks and Modification forum is a jumbled mess.

Maybe create a "Completed MODs" forum. The moderator could enforce a "No posting allowed except for completed MODs."

Just to clarify, I had no problem "walking away empty handed." Nor did I have a problem with the date you added yours. As for how you feel, you should feel right proud. You did nothing wrong. It was a very good MOD.

As for the spam sunami, I'm still in hiding, afeared he might get me. So it is not likely I'll get to that one so if you want to take a shot at it, be my guest. I may do something more with the strip_tags suggestion I had but not much.

I actually have a mod for vbulletin that works very similar to the vbulletin.org mod forum. It hasn't been tested with newer version of vb though but it would be excellent to use something like that.

So you think $100 is too much? What if we did a 1st & 2nd place winner each month and did payouts of $50 and $25?

Seems more reasonable to me but then what I do at INDEXU I don't do for money. Others may have a different take on the amounts.

    ROFL

I don't always do everything for money either, but why are we asking them to lower the prize?

    That's like saying
I don't want the 200 million powerball jackpot, I will just take $50 bucks.
I did not submit my mod for the money. If I wanted the money, I would have sold the mod and probably made 2-3 times that much. But, at the same time, when I did win, I was glad I got $100 and not $50. Like I said before, I use all the money I make from the script for my project car. The more I get, the faster I get my car done.

What kinda car? Obviously you can see mine.

It's not about lowering the amount, it was more about making two prizes without costing more. Perhaps $75 and $25? I'm just throwing out ideas is all.
