    Default What are "CORE.00000" files?

    urgent Help please
    What are "CORE.00000" files?
    Since a few days ago one of my indexu directories is creating a file called CORE wit ha 4-5 digit number at the end, they are around 6-8 meg large and 100s of them are created every day!?
    What are they and why are they created? They caused my host to suspend me for unusual activities?
    Please give me more info about them.
    I deleted some of them but they were re created

    No it is not from indexu.
    It must be someone else entering your account illegally.

    Hi Dody,

    I contacted my host and this is what they replied;

    Hello Mitchell,

    Your site is not hacked. The file that you mentioned are core dump files, which are created when a script crashes or is unable to run. Recent modification in your php scripts may result to dump core files. Please check if there is any coding error in your php scripts.

    PS: I have removed all core files from your account.
    Can you please let me know what is the problem?

    Cheers
    Mitchell

    I'm not sure. Never happen to me before. If it is a core dump then you can ignore it. It is created by linux os when the system crash.
    I think there is problem with php configuration from the webhost or the server environtment. PHP script itself is high level that run on webserver, so it has very limited access to system files, I never heard php script cause core dump files.
