Today I stopped at http://www.smartdownloads.net/ by google searching software I needed. In my very first visit, I was impressed by the webdesign. I go to category page, detail page. Excellent! Then I bookmark it.

After visiting more pages, then I realize that it use indexu. Wow ... great job for the owner. He did some nice hack too. They also integrate with payment system (regnow.com), so they will earn easy money. Make sure to check their detail page.

This is a good example of how web sites should be designed if the aim is to make the site easy to navigate.

How can we I make a download site using indexu?
Is there a template like thing to change the directory as a download site or a like php resources page?

How can we do it easily?

Is the only way knowing php well? Or making it customized by paying somebody else to design?

Isn't there a way?

I need your help.

its easy to make a download site, you would just change the link to be used as the download link, then just make another feild for a website link for people to view there links.

i will set it all up fro ya for $50

this method would allow everyone to leach from your files right? let me know. i'm interested too, but not im people leeching my files

it all depends on what link you use for people to download.
you can have it goto your files, or off site files.

i know that but both methods will allow people to leech your files

What is 'Leeching' and whats wrong with it?
 
'Leeching' is the term given to when a file from a site is linked directly from another site. ie: instead of putting an downloadable file on their own server and linking to it, the leecher will simply link to the download still on your server (or other servers). The reason that this is wrong is that it leads to bandwidth congestion from external traffic, severely reducing performance for those people on your site. It also ramps up your bandwidth charges and foremostly though, it is considered extremely rude.

ummm... well if you have something you want people to download it doesnt matter, and if it is someone elses download it doesnt matter..... ie: it doesnt matter....

well in my stand point if i am linking to internet explorer, it's microsofts bandwidth and they want everyone to use there software.

and if i was linking to my own software i would want people to download it so they would maybe buy it.

that is why you can find alot of software programs at all the sites such as download.com.

now if bandwidth is an issues for your program you would just goto sourceforge and get on one of there servers for free.

but at a standpoint as a site op. linking to someone elses program doesnt matter. and if it is my program i want people to download it so it doesnt matter.

is about your website being autentic.. leeching files is easy, working to offer them to others is a hard job..
leeching is like stealing...
leeching is unethical if is not done with permission... here and in the other site of the world

Stop me if I am wrong but some time it is desirable, if you allow third party site to search your directory and to display the result in their site they are leeching, aren't they? But is you run a ppc or alike, you make money out ot their traffic. Both party got something.

we are talking about a download system here aladdin, not about plain links...
